Set goals

“The tragedy of life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goals to reach.”

This quote pretty much sums it up, why having goals in life is so important. Targets give you motivation and focus. No matter if you set goals for your workout routine in the gym, your next business project or your personal life – goals give you focus. There are times in our life, where we have to keep too many balls in the air and are running around like a headless chicken. Setting a target is the first step toward success and it helps you organising your head.

When you use goals for your business life, books will tell you to use the “SMART- formula”. This formula can also be adapted to any other area of your life. Here is an example of how to use it:

Specific – make your goals specific for example, rather than saying “I want to increase my body strength”, say “I want to be able to do 20 push-ups by January.”

Measurable – your goals should be measurable, like 20 push-ups or 60 seconds of plank holding.

Achievable – you want to stay motivated so set a goal that is attainable for you. Don’t say, “I want to do 100 push-ups by the end of the week” if you can not do more than 10 at the beginning. Instead say, “By the end of the week I will be able to more push-ups than when I started”

Realistic – your goals must be realistic, again If you set unrealistic goals, you will loose your motivation.

Time specific – set a time limit for your goal. So you don’t loose your focus. Like “I want to be able to do 20 push-ups by January”.

Commit to your targets. Nothing is easier than giving up or just loosing the focus. If you really want to be a goal setting rockstar no matter whether your goals are in the gym, in your personal life (travel planning, meal planning) or in your business; having a plan and writing your goals down can help you to keep the focus. Spend some time making powerful plans, which will actually happen. By writing down your goals you give yourself mental boundaries. When you have a certain end point in mind you will automatically stay away from distractions.
