INTERVIEW ADRIANA

Why Pilates…

I’m a huge fan of any type of high intensity workout, and Pilates straddles the line between high intensity training and yoga— It is deceivingly challenging. It offers me the opportunity to focus on improving skills that I can use to in other fitness related-activities– it is an especially good warmup for the body if you’re going to do Triple Threat or Booty Core. Core stability, flexibility,  posture and proper breathing are all offered in Pilates and I make it a point to  attend everyday because consistent practice makes progress. I feel focused and centred after every class without the need for incorporating spirituality. Although progress is not purely linear, I can myself progressing every week in Chi Chi’s classes.

Top things about motion…

There are so many things I like about Motion: the feeling of bare feet, the ferocity of the heat, the dripping sweat, the snack shop, the amicable professionalism of the instructors. The best thing is the variety and freshness of the group fitness schedule. There is always something new to try and it is super convenient to not have to go one studio for yoga, another for Pilates and then another for circuit training based. Motion offers the best value for money in the area in terms of group fitness and the quality is superb. If I were superhuman, I would spend 24 hours a day there!

About my fitness journey…

My fitness journey has begun and ended so many times in my life, but it really officially began with my first Brazil Boom fitness class in October 2015- I had no idea what a squat was. However, around the holidays in December I was already making excuses again as to why proper diet and exercise were too hard to follow through with. Like half the population of the world, my New Years resolution was to get slim and fit, plus learn a thing or two about weightlifting, as my local gym does not have cardio equipment. After being away from Motion for two months, I decided to renew my membership to test my fitness level. I was surprised that I could things that I’d only dreamt of in October. My body has changed has changed for the better, as the results are rather addictive! I attend classes at Motion  Fitness as often as I can because there is always something on offer that aligns with my weekly or monthly goals. Plus, it’s social and fun!

Fitness goals…

The thing about fitness is that there is a very fine line between enjoying it and hating it. It helps immensely with motivation if you always have a personal goal on mind, otherwise, achieving and maintaining fitness levels turns into a chore. This month my fitness targets are to focus my increasing strength in my legs and my core, now that I am finally seeing and feeling results from the squat challenge and daily Pilates. I am not a fan of swimwear because of my legs and stomach, so I’d finally like to zero in on challenging those thoughts!

About Instagram…

While I have separate Instagram accounts for work and personal use, my fitness account is purely for motivation, accountability and online support. Social media has both made the world a smaller place,  but at the same time driven us further apart— as one can judge by the lack of conversation between people in cafes glued to the iPhones. I don’t feel motivated everyday nor do I feel like I’m progressing in my fitness journey sometimes, but when I scroll though my Instagram feed, I see that so many other people in this world feel the same way and generally offer moral support no matter what— plus, there’s no shortage of recipe ideas, new workout ideas, etc. I’d say that if you are looking for a new way to enhance your personal fitness journey, start a separate account to document your efforts and see what happens!  Feel free to take a peak @dirtyflamingochronicles.
